Every other suite on the market offers special advantages that Office itself can't provide. The Document Foundation's LibreOffice, for example, is fully open-source, so security-conscious users can be confident that their office apps aren't sharing data with Microsoft, Apple, or anyone else. Google's commercial G Suite and the free Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides keep all your documents in the cloud, which may be an advantage if you're always on the road, but a disadvantage if you want the editing power of a desktop app like Word or Excel. You can download Google's documents in standard formats like those used by Microsoft Office or LibreOffice, but the originals are always in the cloud and (with some special exceptions) can only be edited in Google's browser-based and mobile-app interface. Here are the basics of today's major suites.

I assume it finds this more pleasing to the eye as well as to the ear because it adds an extra 's' to many more words ending with a single one. It also does not like the normal spelling of 'which' and converts it to 'whichh'. There are many other examples, which I am not going to enumerate in detail.

Just haven’t used it enough to zoom around in it. Thinking about it though. I worked with Scrivener for a while and found it difficult to master. It takes a lot of setting up. (I just want to start writing) Pieces are scattered and disjointed.

First, Pages automatically saves a document as you type. While this can work well on a Mac, where you have various options for retrieving a prior version of a document, it is not well suited to the iPad. With Pages on the iPad, your only option is to Undo. Although you can undo multiple steps, this is still not an ideal solution. Second, Pages has no built-in support for Dropbox. This is a serious, almost deal-breaking, limitation for me.

Going through its features, Jarte is supported by Windows 7/XP/Vista. Its interface is quite efficient and requires less from your PC or laptop to work with and provides really fast results.

Simplenote (Free) Simplenote was built in 2008 to replace the yellow jotter-style notes app that Apple pre-installed with every iOS device. Creators Mike Johnston and Fred Cheng left the service for two years to work on Simperium, before returning to Simplenote with a brand new set of apps in September last year. In addition to its iOS and Web incarnations, Simplenote was now available as a native Android and Mac app. That cross-platform support is why Simplenote is one of our favorite word processors for Apple’s desktop hardware. It’s free to download from the Mac App Store and lets you catalog your documents with simple tags underneath each note. Simplenote is lightweight – similar to Byword and iA Writer – but builds on that foundation with a sidebar and search field on the left-hand side.

I love Autocorrect so I can type 2-3 letters and have expand to long names, words, phrases and places that I don’t have to write out every time. (Especially nice when I’ writing fantasy) With Word, I can save my doc at any time as a PDF, send it to my Kindle, and read the completed work (so it looks like a book) and use Kindle’s note feature for marking changes for editing. For me, Word works. I could write a third of a novel in the time it would take to learn Scrivener. Susan, I am like you.

Here are features that you will love: • • •.Net or Java Free – Yes, this word processor will run perfectly without.net or Java installed on your computer. The app supports basic formatting, such as font and size changes, bolding, italicizing and underlining. By accessing your note info (the “i” in the top right-hand corner of the app) you can also review your word and character count. For a distraction-free writing experience similar to Byword or WriteRoom, I also recommend opening your current note in a separate window, before hiding the rest of the Evernote client. The app isn’t designed to be a standalone word processor, but if you’re saving all of your work in Evernote anyway, it’s a useful weapon to have in your arsenal. ➤ Microsoft Word (Office for Mac: £109.99/$139.99 or Office 365: £7.99/$9.99 per month) While I’ve never been much of a fan, still has a huge following.

Message was edited by: NA Smith. Go to Macupdate.com and do a search on 'word processor' and you'll find a huge number of them. I believe iWork (Pages, Numbers & Keynote) still come with the computer but you must download them from the App Store. Pages takes a bit of getting used to if you are a Word user but it is a decent basic word processor.

A single scientist with a calculator would have to work nonstop for 177,000 years to perform the operations that Blue Gene can do in one second. I suppose I don’t have to explain how this has benefited simple, poor families all over the world by providing universities, governments, and commercial research labs with technical ability to address a wide range of problems that had simply been too complex to tackle. BTW, you may be interested to know, last year alone, IBM invested a mind-boggling $5 billion in new technologies. It is impossible to calculate the benefit this investment will ultimately bring to ordinary people like you and me.

I also liked Nocs; it features a Preview mode (absent in iA Writer) that works almost as well as the one in Elements. [As an aside: The need to frequently shift from the virtual keyboard to the rest of the touchscreen for editing remains one of the most irritating features of iOS word processing. More cursor controls and shortcut keys are needed. IA Writer and Write 2 are a step in the right direction. Even better would be context-aware swipe controls, such as shown in this — a form of which is.] iA Writer’s custom keyboard keys Bottom line The apps covered here don’t exhaust the text writing options in iOS. To jot down simple notes, iOS’s Notes app is sufficient. There are also a variety of note-taking and outlining apps that I haven’t covered here (from to ).

IA Writer This word processing application is somehow similar to ByWord since both have minimal designs, handy, lightweight and fast, and not to mention that it also has the price tag of $9.99. What makes this app better than ByWord is the other features like Focus and Markdown. ByWord It is downloadable and can be purchased from Apple’s Mac app store for the price of $9.99, and it is best for some geeks there that always loves to write since it is handy, lightweight, beautiful but with minimal designs making it a fast word processing application.
