Is there an equivalent to Microsoft OneNote available for the Mac? I primarily use MS OneNote to take notes in class. I find having all my notes contained in virtual 'notebooks' and 'tabs' to be very convenient, as well as the Office Live feature that syncs all my notes between my various computers. Specifically, if you are operating with 20+ or more files either in work or school for commonly complex procedures (such as billing for Medicare with 20 different types of products and/or 500 codes with unique details for each to deal with) or a master program with 2 years of notes to keep organized for reference, this is a great tool to use to click between the files and actually read them again quickly (the alternative is all in MS Word documents that need at least 10 seconds to load between each one). Also, making the MS Word tools for making grids, or bringing in an Excel file too, would be nice. The PDF import prints are extremely useful.
I work in a computer lab, my main work area is separate from the racks where the servers sit. I often need to perform console tasks which cannot be performed remotely, and OneNote is a great way to document my steps, scripts, or other helpful hints. I gather the info, document in OneNote, then go into the server room with my iPhone or iPad and have access to the notes. Organizing stuff in OneNote by Section and Page makes it easy to find stuff. And the instant sync to all devices makes it quite useful.
If I wanted a sentence to be in the middle right of the page I would have to hit enter to get the cursor to the middle, then type, then justify it to the right. If I then decide to add something to the top of the page things get messy. I may be overlooking this in one of the suggested programs and if so please let me know.
The one thing that I haven't been able to find in any of the many note taking programs is something that the original author of this thread mentioned: Being able to write text in boxes. In OneNote, you can write text wherever you want on the page. The page is not like a text page. To type something on the right side of the screen in OneNote you just click on the right side and type. Don't like it there? Drag it down to the middle of the page. Then go to the bottom of the page and make a list.
Bottom Line The Windows platform has a nice selection of note-keeping apps to choose from, including Evernote and Google Keep. Same goes for Office Online and all the other Windows online stuff.

You can have several different notebooks. I choose to use two. One personal, one for work. Keep things organized by Section Groups, Sections and pages. For work, my Section Groups are something like Meetings, Projects and Vendors. Sections cover types of meetings, projects and companies. Then the pages are for subcategories like individuals or groups, contacts, parts of projects, etc.
Why not choose to laugh.

I'm pretty much done with this thread, Office 2016 is available at Staples, Amazon, Best Buy, MS and Apple Stores - and Office 2019 will be available in about 3 months with no upgrade path from Office 2016. Neither suite includes OneNote. Office 2019 is already in beta for business customers - I know, I'm one of them. Over, and out. Okay - has really started a mess here. OneNote is NOT going away. If you use the Windows OS, it will continue, though as a re-written program like what happens from time to time.

I had been using Evernote. When Microsoft launched OneNote for Mac, I experimented with it for a few months. I'd like to move back to using Evernote, but I'd like to be able to move the notes I created in OneNote (which are almost all text) into Evernote. Is there a way to manually export notes from OneNote for Mac and import them into Evernote for Mac, or otherwise synchronize notebooks between these products? If it helps I could also do this from Windows with OneNote 2010 and a current version of Evernote for Windows. As far as I can tell, there is no way to get your notes out of OneNote on a Mac other than printing to PDF. The above for emailing notes from OneNote will not work on a Mac.
Microsoft offers 15GB of storage space on OneDrive for free, and with an Office 365 subscription, you get 1TB of space. Share your notebooks: OneNote lets you share a notebook with others and allow them to either collaborate with you or simply view your notes but not make changes. Takes some time to build up a workflow, but once you do it’s miles ahead of almost every other note taker. Only exception is Notability, which I think has a little bit better handwriting capability, but not nearly the organizational ability that OneNote has. MS is discontinuing support of the desktop app for both Windows and macOS, and they've already discontinued development of both desktop apps (currently called Microsoft OneNote, generally associated with Office 2016 apps). And, I already offered backup - read that linked-to web blog post, it's from a member of the MS OneNote dev team, not some prognostication from some guy located some where. The desktop app's replacement has already been deployed, a bit over a month now, on Win10. I'm a business owner, I get TechNet updates, I read the updates and that MS post. Don't believe me, believe MS - read that blog post. I've tried the new application, and it blows green, hairy chunks when compared to the current app.

KingKongRumbles Needs improvements The first week of opening this on your Macbook or Apple device (if you previously owned this on PC, or even a different older Apple device) may cause sync errors and crashes when starting to move larger files above 30MB. It will also save time after the calibration, but for older generations (prior to 1980) or the executive white male types with little patience, it will make your employees and/or yourself miserable during that time to put to use at work. For newer millenial generations inundated with files, this will work well.

It’s been about a year since Microsoft released (and I reviewed), which was,, available only from the. Over the past 14 or so months Microsoft has made numerous incremental changes to the app, adding or updating features and making the app more versatile and, perhaps, making it a better note taking choice than the everpresent. Whether OneNote is suitable as an Evernote replacement for you will depend largely on what you use Evernote for.
It seems that the folks at Microsoft are never really that interested in giving Mac users the same quality and functionality that is available on the PC.this is why I am migrating to EverNote. Cost be damned. Hope this helps!

But OneNote is really benefitting from the monthly updates to Office, which have added the much-needed spell check, audio recording that’s time-coded to your notes (so you can quickly go back to find out why you wrote something down), Smart Lookup for researching on Bing directly from a note, and a whole new ribbon tab for drawing and ink tools. If you have a separate drawing tablet with a pen you can use it to write, draw and erase ink, or you can use your mouse or trackpad with multiple pen styles, weights and colours including a highlighter. These updates mean that while there are still features that you only get on the Windows version of OneNote, Mac users have a much more powerful note tool than before.
If you already have OneNote on your Mac or iPhone, you can visit the respective App Stores to download updates. If you don't, you can either hunt down the apps yourself or visit.
With that in mind, the new OneNote for Mac update allows users to organize hyperlinks with short descriptions, drag and drop images, and print notes. I have bought the Microsoft Office Suite for my Mac anyway as I have grownup with the package since I first started using computers in work, but I would happily pay for using this great piece of software too. RennieLMR Cross platform - without Windows Having started my voyage into computers with a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Atari, Desktop PC with 4MB Ram and 100MB Hard drive I spent a few years going thorugh MS DOS; Windows 3.1; up to Windows 10 by which time I had become reasonably conversant with Microsoft Office and latterly expecially loved One Note. However having moved onto Apple and no longer having PC nightmares, I did miss One Note. What a joy to find One Note revamped and available cross platform. I now use One note on my iMac; MacBook Pro; iPad and iPhone. The available features are commensurate with each devices ability and other than having to log in using an old hotmail e-mail address, everything works well. The ability to sent items from web pages and forward e-mail directly to One Note also makes keeping things in sync and accessible anytime anywhere, a superb asset in this information hungry and time critical world we now seem to live in.
But if you’re a longtime OneNote for Windows user who only recently switched to Mac, you might find yourself disappointed. It’s not clear if Microsoft is going to add all these features to the Mac version. Of course, I’m just one person.

As soon as you reconnect to the Internet, OneNote will automatically sync your changes to the notebook on OneDrive. After syncing shared notebooks, you’ll be able to see any notes from the other notebook authors that were added or changed during the time you were offline — and they will be able to see the changes you have made. I used to get updates for OneNote, but they seem to have stopped.

You can color code and name these tabs and rearrange as you please. The beauty of OneNote lies in how you enter your notes. Click anywhere on a notebook page and begin typing and your text appears right where you clicked. This text can be formatted in the same way you format it using a normal text editor. The text you type is contained in a text box and these boxes can be moved and rearranged anywhere you want ont he page.
While I love Evernote, the increase in price was more than I was willing to justify when other options, like MS OneNote are available. So far, I've been able to assimilate and accomplish everything in OneNote that I did in Evernote. Did the same thing on a Windows VM in Parallels back when Evernote first starting screwing around with taking away and charging for previously-free features.
