I've tried both preview and quick look but don't like them at all. If I select an image it always opens in 'preview' but the 'previous/next icons are always blacked out? Anyway, I've tried that and noticed all the aspects mentioned above. The dealbreaker for me is that you still have to pre-select all files to be able to scroll (next/previous via arrow keyas) in true fullscreen mode. Also, I think the so-called 1:1 view is actually overzoomed. ----------------------------------------- Lyn: This appears good in concept but it looks buggy to me, at least in the trial I downloaded. “Actual size” is overzoomed.

I'm searching for a good photo viewer. Google search found a thread here from a couple years ago but I thought I'd raise the question again and see if I can get some current recommendations. I want a photo viewer that's simple and quick. I want to be able to double click a single photo in a folder to launch the viewer, and then jump to next & previous photos via the arrow keys. I don't want to have to do CMD-A to select all files in the folder. I want a true 1:1 / 100% zoom (where 1 pixel in the image = 1 screen pixel). I don't need editing capability.
Just click on any folder/image anywhere and bang! WPV is there quick as you like with just enough options but not too many to clutter it's main purpose.

Click to expand.I don't know about Macs (I'm still new to them), but I know on Windows there was an issue with Photoshop where the file colors were always different in Photoshop when compared to the Save for Web previews, or when viewing the image anywhere else. I basically had to do a Google search to find tell Photoshop to make the 'working' copy have the same colors as the final copy.
If you select just one image and press spacebar you can browse the whole folder. Trackpad zoom should work fine in the Quick Look view, but CMD +/- won't. For rotating images you'll have to open Preview, and whatever, Preview doesn't like to open multiple images I'm sorry. If you get a 'bad open' with preview (where it opens multiple windows instead of just one), just CMD+Q Preview and try opening again. It'll usually get it right the second time.

I know that quick look also doesn't serve the function of a photo viewer and that's the problem, the mac doesn't have the equivalent of WPV which is what I was looking for. Preview can do the job more or less as good as WPV but you have to jump through hoops; select your folder, CMD+A, etc. It seems I'd have to do this on every folder I want to view, but I might be wrong on this. Here's what I've tried so far, and my impressions: Preview.app: Have to do CMD-A (or preselect all pictures you want to view). Doesn't have true 1:1 zoom state. (The so called 'actual size' zoom option is far more enlarged than 1:1.) Xee: Workflow felt too much like Preview. I use Xee; I do not see your problems with it, and it is 'fast enough' for me.

Next to the 'X' on the top left corner to close the slideshow app there is a small icon to enter full screen mode (from here you can play slideshow if you want).
