Aloha all, I am facing a decision on buying a new computer. My primary use for this machine is REVIT. I wonder if any of you out there are experiencing blissful times or indeed problems associated with a mac similar to the latest imac w/ 32GIG RAM and the best video card mac can come up with. I see from the specs that they have gone away from NVIDEA which is what Autodesk recommends.

If you don't plan to use OS X much and use the iMac almost exclusively as a Windows computer, then you can dedicate almost the entire drive to bootcamp (though I'd leave about 40GB for OS X for future OS X updates). You don't have to do anything with the cores or RAM in boot camp. Allocating cores and RAM is exclusive to a VM setup (when you setup the Windows VM, you specify how many cores and how much RAM to allocate to the VM). And yes, performance in a VM sucks compared to boot camp. Since I use OS X most of the time at home, I'll occasionally do a little family editing or load up a model to take a quick look at something in a VM, but otherwise, when I want to get a day of work in, I'll boot into boot camp and work there. Which isn't so bad these days with most stuff in the cloud. Presently, you'll want Parallels, not VMware Fusion.

Don't know if there is any way around it when you've got a laptop that 'kicks on' a 3D graphics card on-demand when running a 3D app, and uses a lower-power card when not. Being a new to not only Revit but also to now owning a beast of a Macbook Pro (brand new top of the tree spec.) i thought i might chime in on my experiences thus far. When in OSX, Parallels 10 is what i'm using, the biggest pain i have found is the lack of hardware acceleration. When in Bootcamp running Windows 8.1, the biggest issues i have come across is heat.

I think they are using AMD brand. Currently i am running on a 2009 imac w/ only 8 GIG RAM and clearly the hard-drives are faster now. Only recently did i discover a brilliant review by Mervin Christopher which enabled me to up my RAM allocation to 4GB, and the use of processors to (2) from the previous (1) GIG OF RAM and (1) Processor.

This means users will still have access to support if they choose to run Revit using Frame. Frame comes in. Frame Personal for individual users using the software on their own personal computer. The browser version operates at fast paced out of the cloud and there is no need to use supplementary plug-ins. Therefore, the users can remain in Mac environments with out any difficulty for the complete experience.

However, many Revit users are still reluctant to make the move to Mac for one obvious reason. The CAD software is simply not compatible with the current Mac operating system. Although this doesn’t exactly mean that you can’t use Revit on your Mac operating system. As many people have found a workaround and that meant running Boot Camp which turns your Mac into a Windows PC. However, you could argue this defeats the point of purchasing and using a Mac.
But i find windows like gum under my shoes and being a surfer i hate wearing shoes in general anyway. So i would prefer to stay on the side of the light.. But if i must then i must. Also i would wonder how your parallels experience equates with running it in bootcamp. My process involves a lot of cut-n-paste from Clients/ and Engineers via email which i turn into text edit docs and then make sheet notes but for now i like being in the Parallels environs - tho i would surely test out bootcamp.
The only option is to install bootcamp drivers but they seems to not support Revit on 5K (at least on AMD R9 M395 graphic card). I've readed many topics in AMD forum and many people have the similar problems related with AMD drivers on new IMACs.
Running in BootCamp you'll get a super fast native Windows machine with better build quality and better drivers than you would get with a Windows desktop. Only major caveat being the 5K display. Windows is a joke when it comes to really high res display support, and Revit is a joke on top of the joke.

For now i didn't set my partition big enough to run bootcamp properly so i have never been able to test it.. All thoughts on the matter of REViT greatly appreciated.
When using Revit back in 2005, I was an Apple Macintosh user. As with learning any new application, and in this case learning about the technology of Building Information Modeling itself, I became obsessed and I wanted a version of Revit for Mac.
While I am at it, stick to the NVIDIA Quadro’s M or the more budget-conscious, though lesser, K series.
