It was working fine last night, and when she opened it up today, the screen stayed black and won't turn on. At first I thought the display broke, but I connected it to a tv and nothing, and there is no sound as well so I'm figuring it's not turning on at all. The weird thing is though, when we plug in the MagSafe charger, the light turns green (bright green as if it's fully charged so I'm at a loss of what it could be. I tried a smc reset and pram reset bit those didn't help. It unfortunately has no warranty and buying a new computer right now is not an option for her.

My MacBook aluminum late 2008 (MacBook 5,1) I download SMC firmware and try show package contents but I can't do, then I use some app for open, extrac installation app from the package and install in utility folder and try instal but fail! I think the program check my version and no let me install. If somebody can extract the file for me and send to me and how to install thanks!

I had no problem setting it up and it seems to be working very well. I did upgrade to 8gb of memory to help processing speed, so I'm sure that will help a lot. The only downside is there is considerably more wear than I would have hoped. Cosmetically, the laptop still looks decent, by the corners are scuffed and there is one small crack underneath the mouse pad. The bottom has many scratches, but I think it still looks good for its age and hope it will hold up with protective casing. Altogether, I'm happy with my purchase.
